Ghosts, Goblins and Gringos: Celebrating Halloween in Banderas Bay

But with the large number of foreign residents living in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, including many families with children, Halloween is commonly celebrated throughout Banderas Bay.

For the less crafty, fantastic children’s costumes can be found at Costco or the massive costume store, Pillin, located a just a little further down the road on Avenida de los Tules. Walmart, Sorianna and Mega Comercial in Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta also have a good selection of costumes, face paint, decorations, pumpkins and more.   For Martha Stewart types, there are several large fabric stores in the area including Parasina which has locations near the marine terminal in Puerto Vallarta, the Vallarta downtown core and in the Walmart Macro Plaza.

And of course, what’s Halloween without trick-or-treating?  The Puerto Vallarta Malecon is the place to be for showing off your costume and collecting candy along the way.  And stop by Andale on Olas Atlas Street which always has its street-side tables packed with gringos armed and ready with candy for treat-or-treaters.  Or if the scene at the Malecon is too overwhelming for younger kids, try the Puerto Vallarta Marina or Bucerias, where large communities of snowbirds will be ready to admire your little one’s costume and will have lots of treats for little ghouls and boys.
