Philippe Starck Designs Puerto Vallarta

Starck's sensibility and aesthetic has created a numerous varied products and buildings, from high concept and highly coveted home items in the trendy Alessi line, to windmills as part of an ecological design project with Pramac Energy Group, to the elegant Baccarat Museum in Paris.

In the late 1980’s, Starck was famously pursued by Ian Schrager, former owner of the exceptionally infamous nightclub, Studio 54, turned hotelier, to create the interior design in the first property in his luxurious hotel line which is frequented by the rich and famous.  The Starck design of that property, the Royalton Hotel in New York City, introduced the world to the concept of the “boutique” hotel, thereby changing the face of the industry.

In 1999, Philippe Starck joined John Hitchcock to create “yoo”, an architectural and interior design firm dedicated to creating truly inspirational and unique residences across the globe.  The yoo group has been an extraordinary success, and within the company, Starck has a personal brand “yoo inspired by Starck” which now boasts the completion of over 20 spectacular properties worldwide including Boston, Hamburg, Istanbul, Berlin, Munich, Panama, South Beach and Tel Aviv.

In Puerto Vallarta, Philippe Starck has made a stylistic and architectural mark with Icon, a creation of 343 residences that bring the trademark Starck New Design style to the tropical Banderas Bay lifestyle.  Mixing traditional Mexican sculpture with a high concept, often irreverent design scheme, Icon is the epitome of modern, exclusive architecture which still seems perfectly situated on its gorgeous stretch of Puerto Vallarta waterfront.

Philippe Starck is quite possibly the best known designer of the New Design style.

Anyone can build a building that protects people from heat, sun and cold. What I am determined to do is to make a stage where people can be sexier and more brilliant, a place where they can awake smarter. - Phillipe Stark
