Travel Tips for New Parents

Obtaining a passport for your child can be a lengthy process and having an infant fulfill all of the passport photo requirements (eyes open, sitting up, mouth closed) may take more than one visit to the photographer.  Start your document proceedings well in advance of your planned vacation to avoid delays.  Also, if parents are traveling separately, be sure to have a notarized document stating that both parents are aware that the child is traveling out of the country to avoid issues at the airport.

Although you can find equivalent products in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit to almost everything you would find at home, some products such as powdered formula are better to be brought with you to allow for consistency within your child’s diet and preferences.  As well, if your child has sensitive skin it is advisable to pack any creams, lotions or soaps that you generally use at home rather than purchasing new items which may be made by the same manufacturer but using different formulations in Mexico.

Packing a new toy in your diaper bag can make the journey on the plane more enjoyable for both baby and parents, as well as snacks, bottles, and at least two more diapers than you would imagine you could possibly use.  And consider bringing a child carrier such as a Baby Bjorn with you to hold your baby while you’re sitting in your seat.  The closeness and warmth of your body will encourage your child to sleep while still allowing you the freedom of your arms.

Once you’ve arrived, consider using a company like Puerto Vallarta Babysitting to give Mom and Dad some well-deserved private time.  Babysitters will come to your vacation home and allow you some freedom to enjoy your vacation as a couple.  Puerto Vallarta Babysitting also offers some baby equipment rentals such as cribs, playpens or strollers to lessen your load while traveling.
