Puerto Vallarta's new infrastructure

The renovation will include the modernization of existing Malecon, the breakwater of the city, as well as the widening of the five kilometer stretch highway of the city which links to Mismaloya. Mayor Gonzalez Resendiz has said that these improvements will eventually set a better overall image for Puerto Vallarta.

The Malecon area will be widened and leveled. Part of the improvements will strip the existing concrete surface and will replace these with natural stones. There will be trees in the area to provide additional shaded areas and statues will be repositioned back in place.

Although extensive repairs will be going on within the downtown area, the resort city will remain open to traffic as two one-way lanes one block above the Malecon has been adapted for increased movement. In addition, the downtown area of Puerto Vallarta will have improved lighting and retaining walls will repaired. The roads will not only be repaired for potholes but rather undergo modernization.

No sooner were Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit designated hosts of next year's Tourism Expo, did city workers and authorities begin work on proposed facility renovations and improvements. Construction has begun on the 600 meter long access road to the International Convention Center will stem from the main Las Palmas Avenue with a 25 meter width.

While we're on the subject of roads, Puerto Vallarta's government is financing the construction of a third tunnel adjacent to the older Libramiento-leading one.

The main objective of providing the destination with all this new infrastructure is to attract more tourists and satisfy the everyday needs of local residents. The idea is to showcase Puerto Vallarta as one of Mexico’s most modern tourism destinations without loosing its small town charm.

Much has been said of Puerto Vallarta's newest transformation by local residents and visitors alike. Without a doubt the most important factor to remember is that Vallarta is getting a much-deserved boost mainly due to it's upcoming role as host to international sporting, political and economic events.

The XVI PanAmerican Games Guadalajara 2011, 2012 Tourism Expo and World Economic Forum are some of the main events that Puerto Vallarta will have the honor of hosting, and the whole world will be watching.
