Puerto Vallarta City Plans major restoration of Vallarta's Historic Center

While much effort was spent at the beginning of the year to beauty the area immediately surrounding the main plaza, local business grew despondent that the enhancements to the areas facades, local parks and principal streets had been put on hold.

The municipal director of Tourism José Luís Diáz Borioli conducted a series of round table events to invite leading members of the restaurant, hotel, tour and other local business associations to participate in a series of round table discussions to communicate the city's refocused efforts to reclaim Puerto Vallarta's lost beauty.

While plans are still in their early stages, the secretary for tourism is calling on restaurant, hotel and tour operators to join the effort to "rescue" what was once Puerto Vallarta's leading tourist attraction the malecon with it's famous art sculptures. While there was initial skepticism at the event, Mr Diáz Borioli presented a strong and thorough presentation that won over many of the biggest skeptics.

He assured all present the works were schedule but most importantly had received the financial support from all levels of government to which he received a enthusiastic round of applause. He did temper enthusiasm by informing the participants that works were under way and that all business should expect some minor disruption to traffic flows in the lead up to the Christmas Vacation peak. The city government surprised many local business owners and restaurants this month by announcing that despite a major decrease in tourist revenues during the 2009/2010 season spending was to be ricochet up by $77 million pesos in 2010/20111 in an effort to beautify the historic Center in down town Puerto Vallarta.
