Your Consulate in Banderas Bay, Part II

In this week’s installment, we examine some of the most common services the Consulate of Canada located in Puerto Vallarta and the American Consulate located in Nuevo Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit can provide.

Should you lose your passport while on vacation in Banderas Bay, your consulate can assist you with obtaining emergency travel documents with a police report and secondary identification.  Americans and Canadians living in the Puerto Vallarta area may also reapply for passports through their consulate with a processing time of approximately 4 weeks.

Babies born to American or Canadian citizens may be issued birth certificates and passports by completing a Record of Foreign Birth at your country’s consulate.   Your consulate can also provide notarial services for documents allowing minor children to travel alone or accompanied by only one parent, other family members or friends.

And, although hopefully you will never need such assistance, your consulate is also able to provide emergency services.  Should you or a family member be detained by the police for any reason, your first call should be to your consular agent to intervene on your behalf.  Similarly, your consular agent can assist you in medical emergencies or funeral arrangements.

Banderas Bay has one of the world’s largest communities of American and Canadian expats in the world due in part to its safety and the excellent medical facilities available in the area.  But having a locally located American and Canadian consulate not only provides peace of mind for foreign residents and visitors, but allows for easily keeping your official documents from your country valid and in order.
