A Day in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle

Less than an hour’s drive from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport is La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, which is a great place to explore when you’re visiting Puerto Vallarta or Riviera Nayarit.  This little fishing village offers many fun activities for visitors.

La Cruz is a fishing paradise and holds La Cruz International Fishing Tournament annually with sportsman from around Mexico, Canada and the USA competing in the categories of marlin, tuna, dorado (mahi-mahi) and catch-and-release sailfish.  This year’s tournament is July 13 and 14 and a visit to the weigh-in station in the afternoons at the La Cruz Marina is sure to be exciting and showcasing some amazingly large game fish.

While you’re at the marina, stop for some good Old English pub fare like fresh caught fish and chips at the Britannia Pub.  Or for fine dining, pay a visit to Ikaui at the Yacht Club which serves of global cuisine with special attention to seafood fresh from Banderas Bay.

But perhaps the most perfect way to spend time in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is simply enjoying one of its beautiful and pristine beaches.  Stop at any corner market on the way and pick up a kite to take with you as the La Cruz beaches always have a lovely breeze, add a bottle of wine and spend the afternoon just relaxing by the ocean.

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, offering a cooler beach climate all year round and pristine beaches, has become a favorite day trip activity.
