Before the new road was built to it, all but the hardiest of tourists had problems in getting to this beautiful beach. Chacala is primarily a fishing village, but thanks to the new road, it is developing at a rapid pace. It offers a calm bay for swimming and sometimes surfing, depending on the climate and waves. The only buildings on the beach are palapa-topped restaurants. There are several independent hotels in Chacala ranging from the very chic to right down basic. Chacala is all about relaxing and getting away from the hustle and bustle of bigger places, like Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.
